The Sociotechnical Studio at Ginkgo Bioworks explores the relationship between science, technology, and society. While Ginkgo's mission is to make biology easier to engineer, the Ginkgo creative team behind the Sociotechnical Studio realizes that this is, in many ways, a social and cultural challenge as much as it is a technological one.
Many of our projects are framed as experiments that span design, policy, and storytelling, and all seek to open doors and build living bridges towards a more equitable, open, and sustainable technology for people and planet. Recently, the work of the studio was featured in The New York Times Style Magazine article: Designing for the Future When the Future Is Bleak.
